PRP Injections for Pain
Platelet Rich Plasma (or PRP) therapy is actually a therapy for healing damaged or injured tissue. Pain relief happens as a result of activating the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
The body’s first response to an injury is to deliver platelet-cells to the injured area.
These platelet cells begin the healing process by initiating repair and attracting stem cells. PRP therapy uses a platelet-rich solution extracted from your blood, then injected into the site of damage, to “jump start” the body’s healing process.
Patients often see improvement within a few weeks, with healing progressing gradually on an ongoing basis. Ultrasound and MRI examination of treated areas has shown definitive tissue repair, confirming the effectiveness of the healing process.
PRP therapy can be administered as an alternative to surgery, or if administered earlier in treatment it can greatly reduce the ongoing degeneration that can lead to future surgery or result in an irreversible condition.
PRP therapy is being used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including:
Injuries, including ACL injuries, sprains, back and neck injuries
Chronic plantar fasciitis
Osteoarthritis of the knees, shoulder, hip and spine
Rotator cuff tears and arthritis
Joint pain including knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, ankle, neck
Sport-related injuries, including sprains, breaks, tennis elbow or golf elbow
